 ooh dear...  a guess:  if pl10's update now uses addroottimeout instead
of alarm, and it tries to write back buffers when the timeout went off
in a non-root process... then it will get EACCESS, (-)36.

 thanx, i guess i'll keep my (patched) pl9 a little longer now... :)
