|Yes, cam.org is my ISP... So the X server goes through the
|'hosts' file, perhaps, and tries to connect to a suitable host.

|there is something in my setup that prevents my machine from
|talking to itself over TCP/IP. I've had odd error messages of
|that nature in the past (unrelated to X), but never investigated
|them because connections to outside hosts work OK. I guess now
|would be a good time to start looking...
Nope.. dst 127.0.0.1 is the localhost.. dst 0.0.0.0 is a broadcast address..
