Re: Font in mint
Perhaps we could create the necessary fonts for different countries,
including cryllic for Russia and Ukraine, Greek, Arab, Japanese, etc.
This alone would aide in making MacMiNT and MiNT a more accepted Unix
clone. Perhaps a language library could be created for the particular
country with a table allowing the menu items of a program written in
Japanese to be correctly translated on an English, German, Swedish, or
French, etc. system. We could take a lession from AmigaDOS on this
one. The chart would be something like this
Lang # 1 2 3 4 5 6
English French Italian Japanese German Russian
SysFont Monoco ????? ??????? ASLFont+e ?????? ??????
Menu Item
ID #
1. Open ????? ?????? ????????? ??????? ???????
2. Close
This way, the user selects which language and the appropriate library is
loaded. A programmer would use the Menu Item ID # instead of the actual
translation inside the resource. These would be loaded upon opening the
program. Initially the program would use the global language setting
that the user had chosen. If someone else is using the program and they
need it in another language, he/she can change it locally just for that
program in the preferences. Additional words necessary for the menus
that are not on the list can be aliased by a user selected term until
the language resources are upgraded. A website could be created that
would allow automatic upgrading of the system or various components that
have been approved as upgrades or enhancements.
