This is actually the case with the oSIS project. NoCrew has been implementing
the necessary aspects of GEM so that it may be run on Linux m68k machines
(Atari TT030, Falcon030, Amigas, and Clones). However, it is necessary to
maintain both projects, thus Atarians that can't run X sensibly (be it low
memory or having 68000 processor) will still have MiNT/FeniX running FreeAES
and W-Windows while '030+ machines will also have the option of chosing oSIS
ontop of Linux. Thus all Motorola class machines will be able to run GEM.
The only question with Mac68k is whether or not MacMiNT will be revived.
Perhaps MacLinux 68k will be stablized by that time.
