Hi,

the original patch was posted by Harald Denker. Since it doesn't make
sense to do a compiler switch and possibly distribute a separate version
of the kernel, I decided to make it controllable by new keyword in the
MINT.CNF file. So, STESCC=YES supposedly enables the extension. It is
possible though that I did a mistake while applying the patch, so it
doesn't work.

After compiling that I sent the compiled kernel to Harald and asked for a
test. I didn't get any reply from him and no feedback from other people
either. So I assumed everything works as expected. I have no possibility
to test it myself because I've never had ESCC extension in any Atari.

Now it seems it doesn't work, so the ESCC support in MiNT 1.15.0 probably
needs a fix. However, I won't do it.

For some irrelevant reason, I am leaving the FreeMiNT development since 1.
July 1998. The reason is that I'll have no time/possibility to be up to
date every day with what is happening in the MiNT world. The new kernel
coordinator is Frank Naumann. Apart from anything I believe he is more
competent to continue the kernel development, than myself.

At the end, I'd like to thank everybody for help, support, comments, bug
reports, discussions and patience regarding the kernel development. I
enjoyed it all the past year.

Of course, I will still use my Ataris and MiNT. My mail account still
remains valid.

Goodbye for now and good luck improving the MiNT.

Greetings,
