weird problem.

hi, Jonk has a serious problem I can't figure out.
Some env are not seen at all from his mint.cnf
example: UNIXMODE
correctly set, I checked for TAB etc. everything is fine.
but echo $UNIXMODE won't return anything
he has right under setenv TZ which DOES work fine.

So so far we had to edit the /etc/profile to set UNIMODE env variable.
also, setenv HOSTNAME mycomputer  from mint.cnf won't return anything
once logged in the shell.

set
echo $HOSTNAME
nothing! weird!!!

any explanation?
