I've had some problems with this as well, but I don't think this problem is
directly related to the kernel. If I use memory-protection Freedom and aMail
often is killed at this point, this suggests that one of them is doing something
particularly nasty. I have not tried disabling Freedom's windowed alerts, perhaps
that will help.
It can also be a problem with qed or OLGA... Try the following:
1. Write a new mail, using qed as editor. Don't close the editor-window after
aMail as put the new mail in it's oubox.
2. With the previous message (u:\tmp\tempbox.0) open, try writing another one.
qed will now display an alert saying something like "tempbox.0 has been altered
by another program. Reload?" Regardless of what you select now, qed will freeze.
This only happens when using OLGA.
