Here's what the Debian one allows: Be careful (I haven't got the original mail form MER, so excuse me if that's already been pointed out): The 'domainname' command usually represents the NIS/YP's domain name, which has nothing to do with the DNS domain name (though it /may/ be identical on some systems). Most Linux distributions have the command 'dnsdomainname' to refer to the host's DNS domain. This command does nothing more than just parse /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts to get it.
