[MiNT] MiNTLib 0.52.3b
Hi,
a new version of the MiNTLib is available for download at
ftp://ftp.uni-giessen.de/pub/atari/mint/mintlib/pl52/mintlib-0.52.3b.tar.gz
(I hope I remember the URL correctly, somewhere round there).
To answer a frequently asked question: No, there will be no binary
distribution for that release, as long as nobody volunteers to
build one. I can't, because most of you would not be able to
use the lib format my archiver produces.
So, if anybody has got enough disk space, a fast machine and some
hours of spare time left, simply type "make" and "make bindist".
That will produce a binary release that you may upload whereever
you want.
If you build the library yourself (or also if you plan to do the
job for the binary release) you should disable the debuggable lib
and the lib with profiling code in `configvars'. Either one of
these libs is already bigger than the rest and you will rarely
need it. Building them will also consume a lot of time, memory
and disk space.
As an exception to the recent MiNTLib tradition, this version is
reported to produce stable code. If you have hesitated to update
your MiNTLib, you should do that now. It seems to be a good
opportunity.
Following is an excerpt from the file `NEWS':
Version 0.52.3b - 29 July 1999
* Minor bugfixes.
* Cleaned up namespace in init stuff (crt0.o, main.o and crtinit.o).
This was required because crt0.o is now not doubled in the library
like it was before. From now on nothing must reference any global
symbols from crt0.o. IMPORTANT: If you want to compile device
drivers (like MiNTNet) you should update to this version! Otherwise
you will run into problems!
Version 0.52.3a - 10 July 1999
* Temporarily removed all lchown() stuff.
Version 0.52.3 - 06 July 1999
* Bugfix for read().
* Bugfix in buildrules to prevent 48 bit random stuff to be compiled
with -mshort.
Version 0.52.2 - 05 July 1999
* Introduced fchown(), fchmod, and lchown().
* src/Makefile was broken! Thanks to Edgar Aichinger for the fix.
* Fixed bug in basename().
* Something went wrong with the patches. Please start with a completely
new archive. Sorry for the hassle.
Have fun and please don't report bugs! I'm quite fed up of making
mistakes. ;-)
Ciao
Guido
