Sure it does.. but the problem was that some programs might expect that
all drives are available as u:\drivename, wasn't it? (I wasn't completely
following the discussion, correct me if I'm wrong) :)

If you don't care about those programs, there is also another way:

Choose a minix/ext2 partition as root partition, set your UNIXMODE to use
that partition as root, and then symlink everything onto it you need
(u:\proc and stuff). Then you got rid of the driveletters completely. :)
But I recon some tos apps would go bezerk. :) (I never even tried this,
but it should work.. hum) :)

Still, the method you mention (/a -> /.a) is how KGMD hides drive B by
default. I switched it off however, since on my Falcon I *only* get the
"insert disk B into drive A" upon opening drive U when I hide drive B like
this. I know it's supposed to be the other way around, but there you go.
:)

As long as it doesn't break anything, so do I. :) I think it's best that
everybody tries for himself what works, it all comes down to which old
programs you use that might cause problems. It's a bit dangerous to let an
installer do this by default though. :)
