It's save to use LF only for both files.

Anyway, when using vim for editing text files, you don't have to worry
about the format of line endings. See `:help textmode' (vim 4.x) or
`:help fileformat' (vim 5.x) for details.

Also, do you really think that, considering the origin of MiNT and the
existance of distributions like the KGMD, mint.cnf would still be CRLF
only? ;)
