As a programmer after reading this I wouldn't see any need to perform a
pattern match on the names returned by readdir.  Introducing new files in
/proc would surely break the Compendium compatibility (although it doesn't
give me a warm and cozy feeling after all being ruled by the bible of a
dead company).
