Re: [MiNT] Another tale from Remi... ;-)
Hi Guido Flohr, on 19 Mar 00 you said:

The only tool limited to 2 Gb that I use is Kobold... The partitions were
created with HD-Driver which has no limit AFAIK. (It says that the partitions
are 2177,9 Mb.) The FS were installed with 'mkfs.minix' and 'mkfs.ext2' which
are supposed to know and respect the limits of the FS they install. And finally
the files were copied with 'cp'...
Even my desktop (Jinnee) is able to tell me how many bytes these partitions
contain! That is: 2.279.239.680 on minix partitions, 2.283.723.776 on ext2
partition. 'df' says: 2.225.820 and 2.230.199 Kb-blocks. (That's correct.)
I don't think I should expect problems. Even Kobold works when the free space
on the partition is below 2 Gb. So, I won't change my mind... Especially after
having copied 57.674 files, 3.765 folders (and 59 links) on theses 3
partitions. (More than 1.7 GB!) No way! I took me hours with that snail called
'cp' ...on an Hades 060! I won't do it again very soon...
And I (want to) believe that the future disk tools will all handle huge
partitions (...even faster). The hard disk aren't becoming smaller and smaller.
My so-called "6.8 Gb" hard disk (6.38 computer-Gb) is a relatively small hard
disk nowadays... And I just have around 10 Gb of hard disk on my "little"
Atari-clone. ;-)
See you later,
