In Redh*t, the ppp scripts do this by default (since RH6.1 IIRC). In other
words, ifup ppp* doesn't return until the connection is established. I've
looked into the scripts and it seems they do this by using /usr/bin/wvdial
as dialler (with /usr/bin/chat as one of the parameters) instead of
/usr/bin/chat itself.

So just port wvdial to MiNT and presto. ;-)
