Sure, but with this way you can write a monolithic desktop as well,
like Thing is, because all the code is to be written anew anyways. The
original idea was to avoid this, since all components are already
written and tested, and reside in /bin.

This was already invented and is (was?) called Direct. But the Direct
desktop didn't (it seems) go out of betaversion. Does anyone have beter
information about this?
