BTW. it came to my mind in meantime, that sync() is even called three times
while shutting down the system. Namely, despite the two explicit calls, all
processes are sent SIGTERM. And the system update daemon (the "update"
process) registers sync() as a handler for most signals, including
SIGTERM... :)
