As for the floppy disc problem, it is related to syslogd.
I do remember that with 1.15.12 I used to get 2 messages from
syslogd at shutdown. I never worked out why but I think there
were 2 syslogd processes running. This may be unrelated but I
thought it worth mentioning.

Now that you mention it: I also remember having some issues with syslogd and inetd on my Milan before I upgraded to EasyMiNT. E.g. syslogd would always crash during shutdown if MP was enabled. This was with 1.16.3 though, but it could be that the issue is related to this programs and not the kernel itself.

1. Did you switch to EasyMiNT when you upgraded to 1.16.3?
2. If so, what happens if you use a 1.15-kernel now?

I'm quite sure that I have a backup of my old MiNT-setup, I could try extracting syslogd from it and see what happens if I replace the EasyMiNT-syslogd with it.
