The problem is really the setup process...
As Atari users, we have been accustomed to unzip an archive somewhere our hard disk (or floppy), then run the software immediately.

True. But I don't understand why people beg for release-versions, and are not willing to copy some files for test-purpose.

Especially if one has aranym, it is not a great risk, even if it won't boot (I experienced this several times myself). When the boot-drive is on host-fs, it can always easily be accessed from the host-side.

Running Linux software is a headache without a package manager.

On windows most progs have an installer, which you just have to run, and it does the job for you. But I'm sure this is just the end of a long testing and evaluating-phase evolving many users and more crashes.

And for XaAES it is even worse: it must be compatible with the kernel, there is the risk to make the system unbootable, etc...

If there is a detailed install procedure for the binaries (I mean documentation), as well as a recovery procedure if something goes wrong, everyone will try he binary, and I hope, give feedback.

Yes, someone should describe these things.

I believe it could be as simple as replacing xaaes.km if the versions are close enough...

If MiNT 1.17 is used it is replacing the km and the rsc, if I made no mistake. Now I know I'll have to test with 'official' MiNT-builds too.

I'll set up yet another website and place my XaAES there ...
