Unhappily, this was not the case (so much) when cd first came out. A
lot of quality has been lost since then.

UV is still the biggest killer of a home recordable media
(cd/dvd/hd/blueray) atm, and things like USB sticks & ram based meda
have write-life-cycles

It is a concern, but as they point out in the article, keep a copy on
harddrive (unconnected), and update the copys on cd/dvd every 2-3
years (atm) and you should have most bases covered..

Has anyone checked out the life of a CF card yet?

If the ACP/FireBee were supplied with one CF card (with a
complete/multiple OS and dev tools), how long would it last if it was
not updated or written to, where at most, it was copied to a new CF
card  which was used everyday
