It is chicken & egg, without the tools it would be harder to test the
driver.
The natural thing to do is to extend ifconfig together with the driver.

Sparemint rpm's are not re-built though and that it what I was referring

No. The net-tools are in the FreeMiNT CVS, not SpareMiNT.

have to be done to the driver.

No. Because you first have to know *what* to configure, and *how* to do
it. I would assume that these things are much easier to determine when
developing the driver. Developing the config-tool first does not make much
sense.

The situation is the same today. Still no driver for wifi-cards for
FreeMiNT.
