Yes, that is exactly why I considered issues b) - d) to be
problematic. Once the file selector is active, things are out of
hands and cannot be handled when then user switches drives, i.e.
possibly switches file systems. It is a classical dilemma.

Yep. In that sense, would it be possible to get the source code of
one of the more common file selectors and integrate proper file system
handling? Kind of making a 21st century Atari TOS file selector.
