I think the reason there's a difference of opinion here is that Helmut is 
looking at it from the POV of a developer where things are *always* going 
wrong, whilst Jo Even is looking at it from the POV of a user where things 
should *never* go wrong.

I think that official releases should be for users, so logging should by 
default be off.  Development code however should probably always have debugging 
on.
