It should be explained in the wiki also.

BTW: I've asked this before: Is it possible to freeze the wiki for a  
release-version and duplicate it for the current version, so changes to  
the current version do not affect the release-documentation?

Yes, I agree, that should be removed, guess it's for historical reasons.

That does not mean that no file may have a version in its name.
