[Freemint-list] malloc

I was curious about something in zView so I had a look at the
source code.

When opening a large image file, there can be a long delay (tens of
seconds) before the progress bar appears.

It looks like it is doing some mallocs at this time before it initiates
the progress bar.

Is malloc really slow ? I do remember reading various posts a long
time ago about malloc issues and wondered if it is still an issue ?
