Did you replace rsync in your PATH or just run it locally like ./rsync ? If you did the latter it will still spawn childs from your path I believe, so it's best to replace the one in your PATH and try again.
I don't have any rsync in my $PATH. I just ran it locally from /ram. Jo Even
