No, it would be more difficult, but maybe more useful. But is there a
scenario where you would allow a program to call power-off directly
instead of doing a proper shutdown? Also, I'm not quite sure if the /dev
filesystem is available at the time were MiNT is actually powering off.

Also, by using the cookie-method the already existing functionality in
e.g. FireTOS can be exposed to MiNT, similar to how the PureC patching
routines are called from MiNT on the FireBee today.
