I like to be in my homedirectory wenn my shell comes up, which is
started with INIT in mint.cnf.  Therefore I use:
cd u:
cd \home
INIT=\bin\sh
Your patch would disable that.

Just make a symbolic link from u:\auto to c:\auto - and your auto
folder programs will easily start after MiNT.
