These loops are a bug, will see if I can find the cause... Hopefully you
did not use any other software that uses the sound hardware (like one of
these STe sound trackers) before doing the cat xyz > /dev/audio, because
then the timer A handler does not point to /dev/audio's routine any
longer....

Have you set the right sample format? For unsigned samples you have to
issue 'actrl format u8', for signed samples 'actrl format s8' and for
ulaw encoded samples 'actrl format ulaw' before playing the sample.
