I do use Chris' port of 2.8.1, though vconsoles compiled with this
compiler do NOT work correctly (causing hang of whole system during boot
or later when logging off a virtual console).

GCC 2.7.2.3 is perhaps a bit outdated but it still compiles vconsoles
correctly.

I would like to know why 2.8.1 does not handle the vconsoles code but the
assembler output is so MUCH different from 2.7.2.3 that I gave up on
comparing it and finding the bug.
