AFAIK there is a frame buffer driver included in the Linux kernel XFree
uses. So the hw abstraction is done there. Since we don't have that here
(in MiNT) we would need own gfx drivers. I don't know the internals of
X11 but if there is a chance to separate the low level access to the gfx
hw (including reading and writing video ram) from the rest of X11 it may
be possible to set the higher levels of X11 upon the Atari VDI (or NVDI etc.).

As I said, I don't know about the internals of X11 so it's just an idea...
