We introduced that because many networking OS are using Interface-Names
that somehow repesent the Interface-Hardware (See Solaris).
rle0 means "riebl lance ethernet 0".
Eth0 is in no way more common than any other name, it is just used
by Linux.
(Solaris uses the HW to determine the Name, hpux calls them lan? and
I don't know about aix, sco or Irix (but I don't think that Irix
has a big future...)).
