Something that would install TTYs is preferable, I think.
MiNT already has:

modem1
modem2
serial1
serial2
midi

...which should be left there for backwards compatibility.
What the XDD should add (e.g. link to) are the Unix:

ttya
ttyb
ttyc
ttyd
ttye

...or even better:

ttym1
ttym2
ttys1
ttys2
ttymi

...which are more descriptive of the purpose of the port.
