I have a question: is it possible to have both gcc 2.95 and gcc 3 installedon the same machine, without conflict ?


Yes, you just need to decide which is the default compiler (gcc).

IIRC, C++ libraries compiled with gcc 2.95 are not compatible with C++library for gcc 3 (and vice versa).

The libraries of the gcc are not the problem (there is no conflict due toversion numbers and symlinks). If you decide for gcc3 as default compileryou need to update all C++ libraries of the system.
