Re: [MiNT] Re[2]: Re[2]: Re[3]: usage of wind_calc()

Hi killer :)

What provides the current MiNT kernel better that the MagiC one for the
*final user*?

- interprocess communication
SHM ? MagiC 6.2 doesn't provide the SHM?

However nothing to do with the final user.

- networking capabilites
MagiCNet?

- ext2 partitions (u mentioned that already)
- safe and clean resource handling
Nothing to do with the final user.

- memory protection
MMhhh...

- stability
- it is FREE and open source! MagiC still costs bloody much!
2 goods points for you.

- bugs get fixed if you find them
...

- file locking!!!
 (read here: http://yescrew.real-atarian.net/eng/howtocrash.html )
I know this problem :)

Do I have to say more?
No because you don't understand me.

I don't want to do a MagiC vs MiNT comparison, I want to show you that MiNT needs to be better to attract the MagiC user.

For me, the "perfect" MiNT would be:

1) Easy and updated installation's system ( for example like in NAES 2).
2) A GUI to configure various system preferences like the network, the AES parameters, etc..
The MagiC users hate the terminal.
3) A good desktop... I respect the Terradesk author but this desktop is horrible and slow ( for example each time that you scroll a window, a complete redraw is done)... Maybe one day I will make the mine.
4) Virtual memory support.
5) A better memory protection.
6) A VDI as kernel modul with memory protection support. ( what about oVDI?)
7) Unix shareable libraries.
8) Better threads support and the possibility to use libc functions inside.
9) All the old know bugs corrected ( like the one with the Aranym network driver).

When we will have that( even the half), MagiC will be completly dead because there will be no longer any reason to use it.

He knows that MagiC is a hack! That is why it is unstable, why there
are no updates, why it is dead.
A OS is dead when there are no more users and developpers.
Currently, this is not the case.

I have calmed down a bit, too, and will now go to bed and be perfectly
fine tomorrow :-)
Me too.. to the bed :)
