Gem a memory hog...

Why does gem [when started up by MiNT] use ~500K of ram?

If I start {FSM,Font}GDOS, then start MiNT which in turn starts GEM,
I get the {FSM,Font}GDOS using 300K, and GEM using ~550K, which leaves
me with a 3 meg machine? If I then run something like Gemini as an
alternate desktop I am down to 2.5 meg. Seems like I MiNT forces GEM and
Gemini to swell up for some reason. The both take up much smaller amounts
of memory when MiNT is not running.

Cheers,
Scott.
