Joerg, I did this. I commented the "init=c:\multitos\init.prg"
line out, and used "GEM=c:\n_aes\n_aes030.sys". Well, guess what?
The latest beta kernel, 1.15.3b does work fine like this (note
that I did not run it for a very long time to see if I had freezes
like some other users-just established that it did boot up okay
  on my setup).

However, I noticed some odd quirks. I lost vcons, and several
apps such as TOSWIN and Jo Evens' TASKBAR "forgot" their usual
settings. Also, I gained back a little over 2 megs of memory.
And of course, all semblance of security is gone since it boots
  directly into Thing... <smile>

So...what should I do? I mean, I don't want to give up vcons.
Is a "fix" being incorporated into the next beta kernel? Thank
you very much for your help.

  Catch ya later! ;-)
