Re: [MiNT] Re[2]: GEM boost

Quoting Maurits van de Kamp <maurits@bassment.nu>:
It does. It's this whole "unixy geeky" reputation that keeps people away from

Hopefully we can change that.

MiNT. But the real underlying reason for the statistics is of course much
easier: In the early 90s, MagiC was the easiest way to go and you only used
MiNT if you had a special reason to. Nowadays, the few remaining Atarians

I've been using MiNT before there was a MagiC. I remember when my MF30 died
and I got the 512MB SCSI drive .. never thought that could be filled up ever!

just use their Atari nostalgicly and hence they are not going to change
platforms on it now, no matter how nice EasyMiNT is (most don't even know it
exists). SpareMiNT and EasyMiNT came too late to make a significant change in
this.

It would take some really great apps that only work on MiNT/XaAES to cause the
change I think. I was just wondering if there are specific features of MagiC
or other issues that make it more attractive - things we could address.

By the way, I don't know where this 50% statistic comes from but I wonder if
it's accurate today; seeing the activity of developers on the MiNT side in
recent years I'm starting to doubt it.

I don't believe its accurate either, but I'm hated enough already, so I don't
need to go disagreeing with statistics that I have no clue about at all.
Playing devils advocate doesn't get you many friends, but it does occasionally
make people think about the flip-sides of issues.
