"ls | grep pp" crashes (bus error), "grep xxx yyy" does not crash. Grep is the latest package from the sparemint site.
What program crashes ? ls, grep, bash, or other ?We could send you the ls and grep binaries form a working EasyMiNT system to check if it works better.
