Although Konrad has already mentioned it:
You should NEVER use tabs in your mint.cnf.  Consider every line
in mint.cnf that contains a tab not to be executed at all.  This
is the reason for many spurious errors in the boot-sequence.

This is maybe if no help because tabs are very likely to be
messed up by mail transport systems. ;-)
