Telnet and rlogin work, because they support the (deprecated)
/etc/termcap which is easily modified; you can easily paste
the tw52/tw100/stv52 addendum from Petr's term package or if
that isn't allowed, define your own TERMCAP=~/termcap in your
RC files.

However, SSH and most recent stuff requires a localy-compiled
terminfo, which must be added by the admin.

For instance, my stv52 vcons is easily recognized when telneting
at work, since I pasted the mint-specific termcap to our global
file, but ssh doesn't support this. However, affterwards, I can
ssh or slogin to anything and retain the settings, because I was
initially recognized by telnetd.
