Before you get stuck: Simply emulate the KGMD install.  Copy a recent
kernel to your auto folder, create a minix/etx2 filesystem with minit/ext2
programs, then copy the basic programs into your $PATH (may temporarily be
on a TOS partition).  I think that bash, fileutils (at least cat, mkdir
and cp), tar an gzip will do.  Then glue the tarballs together with "cat"
and "tar xzf" them in "/".  You will have to fix some permissions
ownerships.
