My advice for a modern powerfull IDE is to build a graphical
interface around Bash and Make. Such a system could run GCC
as well as the AHCC compiler proper (AHCC_T.TTP) and linker

Sounds like something that already exists. I was using Agnus as a shell for gcc many years ago. gcc did not get any faster though ;-)

It would help if GCC would cleanup itself properly so it could be
called as a function. Or does it?
AHCC works this way.
