i think we nearly forgot about the initial problem with this quake -- you know, there's that problem when you use gcc2-compiled mintlib with gcc4-compiled quake.
I don't see this as problem. This is a major gcc upgrade. The gcc2 compiled libraries don't need to be compatible at binary level with gcc4. If switching to gcc4 all libs must be recompiled. Would be nice if this only affect C++, but if this is not possible ...
