There is no difference between EXT2 and EXT3 except that EXT3 use additonally a journal. Beside from that on the application level you even don't see the fs type as stat() work in a unique way and hide all these details.
The mintlib use the Fstat64() kernel call if available (starting from FreeMiNT 1.15.4) and don't need todo any conversion anymore. The kernel provide Fstat64() even for xfs that don't support it.
