As a conclusion, I think that nano puts the terminal in some strange mode (maybe raw, cooked, etc) which disable the generation of proper escape sequences on arrow keys. To be investigated in nano sources.
No, I think this problem can also be investigated with the ncurses demo program..., or is there some new info I did not understand? I think it's more easy to understand
